Responsibilities

• Perform respiratory care procedures under general supervision and medical direction, exercising judgment within the scope of departmental policies and physician’s treatment plan
• Assess residents’ conditions, administer prescribed therapy and aerosolized medications, and document progress and response to therapy, including adverse reactions
• Provide in-service training to residents, family members, and facility staff
• Utilize knowledge of growth and development principles to meet the unique physical and psychological needs of adult and geriatric residents
• Involve residents’ families or facility staff in assessment, treatment, and continuing care as needed
• Initiate, monitor, and maintain life support systems, including airway care, artificial ventilator management, and troubleshooting mechanical ventilators
• Participate in cardiopulmonary resuscitation procedures, including bag ventilation and closed chest massage
• Assess residents’ cardiopulmonary status using physical assessment, history taking, laboratory findings, radiological studies, and pulmonary function testing to formulate a respiratory care plan
• Verify physician’s orders for completeness, including diagnosis, ICD-10 code, therapy type/duration, medication dosage, FiO2, and frequency
• Observe and document vital signs, breath sounds, and general appearance, including breathing exercises and resident education
• Administer respiratory care procedures, adjust devices for optimal results, and monitor residents’ responses during and after treatment
• Inspect, test, clean, and maintain equipment, ensuring adequate supplies and proper disposal
• Perform administrative duties and record-keeping as required
• Initiate, administer, evaluate, and document therapy modalities such as intermittent positive pressure breathing, nebulizers, chest physical therapy, deep tracheal suctioning, incentive spirometry, and sputum induction
• Recognize and respond to adverse reactions to therapy modalities
• Document all resident care services in medical records and transcribe verbal orders related to respiratory care
• Maintain logs for oxygen and respiratory supplies and equipment
• Instruct residents and family members on the rationale and methodology of respiratory procedures to facilitate cooperation and treatment efficiency
• Attend internal and external educational programs and read professional journals to maintain and enhance clinical competencies
• Participate in interdisciplinary resident rounds and conferences to plan and evaluate effective resident care
• Contribute to quality assurance data collection and general equipment troubleshooting, including quality control and preventive maintenance
• Ensure effective and efficient delivery of rehab services, adherence to care plans, and timely documentation
• Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

• Completion of a NBRC-approved and accredited respiratory therapy program
• One year of clinical practice experience under medical direction
• Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS) certification
• Current State Licensure as a Respiratory Care Practitioner

Pay

USD $36.00 - USD $40.00 per hour
