About the role

The scope of work for a respiratory therapist includes assessment, therapeutic intervention and education for patients with cardiopulmonary disorders and/or sleep disorders or associated complications. Respiratory therapists assess individuals to prevent, detect, monitor and manage disease and complications. They provide therapeutic interventions to directly impact cardiopulmonary health as well as overall health status according to established goals and interdisciplinary care plans. Respiratory therapists provide education to promote preventative care, self-management, enhanced cardiopulmonary health and quality of life. May provide education and data management relative to sleep-disordered breathing.

Performs regular assessments of patients and the equipment they are using in order to adjust therapy. Collects and/or analyzes patients' blood and other specimens to determine levels of oxygen, carbon dioxide and other gases. Measures the patient's lung capacity to determine if there are any impairments. Offers diagnosis results and treatment suggestions based on the analysis of the patient.

Must obtain RRT within 6 months if in Graduate or Certified role. NICU Transport, Children's Hospital, ECMO.

Responsibilities

• Assess patients with cardiopulmonary and/or sleep disorders
• Provide therapeutic interventions and education
• Monitor and manage disease and complications
• Perform regular patient and equipment assessments
• Collect and analyze blood and other specimens
• Measure lung capacity and suggest treatments
• Provide education on preventative care and self-management
• Obtain required certifications (e.g., RRT, NRP, ACLS, PALS)

Requirements

• A degree in Respiratory Care from an accredited respiratory care program (minimum associate degree or equivalent as defined by the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC))
• Thorough knowledge of respiratory care procedures, indications, contraindications, and hazards
• Knowledge of equipment utilized in respiratory care
• Ability to utilize computers for patient documentation and data gathering
• Completion of orientations, competency validations, and in-servicing as required
• Current Respiratory Therapy licensure in state(s) of practice and/or multi-state licensure privileges
• Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credentials through the NBRC (must maintain active status)
• Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS)
• Obtain site-specific specialty credentials (e.g., Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP), Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS))

Pay

• Salary Range: $31.50 - $44.00 per hour
• Eligible for a sign-on bonus up to $20,000
