About the Role

The Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) 2 is highly proficient in the management and delivery of respiratory care. Demonstrates competencies in respiratory assessments and procedures for all patient populations and age groups. Performs and interacts as a healthcare professional administering respiratory care procedures acute care areas and critical care areas. Demonstrates critical thinking skills and the mastery of clinical skills outlined in the RCP 2 COT. Precepts students on rotation. Exhibits leadership skills and is able to act as lead therapist as needed. Under the direction of the Pulmonary Services Leadership team, provides professional respiratory care to patients in accordance with the hospital's policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Management and delivery of respiratory care
  • Respiratory assessments and procedures for all patient populations and age groups
  • Administer respiratory care procedures in acute care and critical care areas
  • Demonstrate critical thinking and mastery of clinical skills per RCP 2 COT
  • Precept students on rotation
  • Act as lead therapist as needed
  • Provide professional respiratory care under the direction of Pulmonary Services Leadership

Requirements

  • Minimum of 1 year of experience plus the ability to show RCP II competency within 6 months of hire/transfer into role
  • Associate degree from a CoARC accredited Respiratory Care program
  • State of Wisconsin license as a Respiratory Care Practitioner
  • Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) from the National Board of Respiratory Care (NBRC) — For incumbents in this role prior to 7/1/21, the Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) will be accepted in lieu of the RRT
  • American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support for Healthcare Provider (BLS) or an AHA approved equivalent
  • American Heart Association (AHA) Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)

Qualifications

  • Critical thinking skills are required
  • 3+ years of experience in a hospital setting providing respiratory care is preferred
  • Bachelor's degree is preferred
  • Advanced specialty credential from the NBRC or Asthma Educator Certification (AE-C) from the National Asthma Educator Certification Board (NAECB) is preferred
