About the Role

Kindred Hospital Melbourne and Acute Rehabilitation Unit (ARU) is a 58-bed hospital offering extended recovery care, including 47 long-term acute care (LTAC) beds and an 11-bed ARU for patients recovering from acute injuries, impairments, or illnesses. Located near downtown Melbourne, we provide 24-hour clinical care in partnership with physicians to support patients on their journey to wellness.

Responsibilities

  • Administer safe and competent respiratory care as ordered by physicians, including monitoring mechanical ventilation, administering medications, and assessing patients.
  • Understand and apply knowledge of hemodynamic monitoring, blood work results, and patient training.
  • Deliver all Respiratory Care procedures as outlined in the department policy and procedure manual, working across all hospital areas.
  • Maintain accurate and complete documentation of all Respiratory Care procedures and enter daily services and charges into the department’s computer system.
  • Verify, initial, date, and time Respiratory Care physician’s orders.
  • Provide and receive accurate shift reports, updating patient profile cards to reflect current clinical status.
  • Attend and participate in department in-services, meetings, patient care rounds, and mandatory hospital meetings.
  • Demonstrate working knowledge of Respiratory Care instruments and equipment, including troubleshooting and problem resolution.
  • Perform airway management, including bag/mask ventilation, assisting with intubation, and safe suction techniques.
  • Initiate and document continuous mechanical ventilation, providing timely updates to physicians and recommending therapy modifications.
  • Assist in orienting and training new employees, respiratory/nursing students, and precepting new staff during orientation.
  • Respond quickly in emergency situations, including initiating and performing CPR with primary responsibility for airway management.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential by the National Board of Respiratory Care.
  • Appropriate state licensure from the licensure agency.
  • ACLS and BLS certification required.
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in an acute care setting preferred.

  • Strong interpersonal skills for interacting with patients, families, and staff.
  • Effective communication in English, both verbal and written, to perform job duties appropriately.
  • Understanding of growth and development principles across the lifespan, with ability to provide age-appropriate care for adult and geriatric patients.
  • Ability to work cooperatively as part of a team.
  • Reading and comprehension skills necessary to perform job duties.
  • Good and regular attendance.
