MercyOne North Iowa is a teaching institution, conducting a Family Medicine Residency, Internal Medicine Residency, Cardiology Fellowship, Hospice and Palliative Medicine Fellowship, PGY1 Pharmacy Residency, and a School of Radiologic Technology. We are also a clinical training site for approximately 500 students from 127 different colleges enrolled in programs for medical laboratory, nursing, paramedic, rehabilitation, medical assistants, pastoral services, physicians, and many other medical fields.

Responsibilities

• Administer routine respiratory care to all pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients in general acute care areas, intensive care, emergency department, surgical suites, recovery rooms, skilled nursing facilities, and other clinical areas.
• Perform incentive spirometry, aerosol therapy, oxygen therapy, pulmonary drainage procedures, BIPAP/CPAP, ventilator management, therapeutic bronchoscopy, co-oximetry, EKG, Holter, Zio, intubation assist, extubation, blood gas, outpatient testing, and suctioning following interpretation of physician orders.
• Assess patients receiving respiratory care using bedside assessment techniques and knowledge of indications, contraindications, hazards of procedures, and actions/reactions of medications being administered.
• Respond to and participate as team members of resuscitation and rapid response pages.
• Perform basic spirometry procedures, electrocardiograms, arterial blood gas sampling, and analysis.
• Provide patient education and assist with community events related to respiratory care.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent; or associate degree in chemical, physical, or biological science required.
• Graduate of a respiratory therapy program required or board-eligible within a few months of graduation (certification required at hire/transfer).
• Credentialed by the NBRC at the Certified Respiratory Therapist or Registered Respiratory Therapist level required.
• Current Respiratory Care Practitioner licensure in the state of Iowa required.
• CAPRS and N95 fit testing validation within 30 days of hire required.
• Demonstrated competence in respiratory care.
• Ability to read, write, and/or speak English.

Skills

• Bedside patient assessment.
• Interpretation of physician orders.
• Performance of respiratory care procedures (e.g., spirometry, EKG, arterial blood gas sampling).
• Patient education and community outreach.

Schedule

• Full Time; 32 hours per week.
• Shift: Evenings - 3:00 PM to 11:30 PM.
• Every 3rd weekend and rotating holidays.
