Job Purpose

Under medical supervision, the Respiratory Therapist delivers cardiopulmonary services to inpatients, outpatients, and emergency room patients on a 24-hour basis. This role requires frequent independent decision-making and operates in a safety-sensitive capacity.

Essential Functions

  • Maintains knowledge of various oxygen delivery methods and equipment.
  • Awareness of possible side effects related to oxygen delivery administration.
  • Administers respiratory therapy treatments and understands associated risks.
  • Monitors and performs mechanical ventilator setups and critical care duties like airway management and tracheal suctioning.
  • Absorbs patient pain affecting functional participation and makes appropriate physician contacts for intervention.
  • Performs arterial punctures for blood gas analysis, understanding potential complications and contraindications.
  • Documents all relevant patient data in medical records post-treatment.
  • Maintains knowledge of departmental forms, procedures, and equipment sterilization protocols.
  • Performs EKGs, interprets results, and files reports according to departmental guidelines.
  • Demonstrates familiarity with age-specific treatment techniques and medication dosages.
  • Fulfills the seven medication rights and minimizes errors through adherence to best practices.
  • Executes all aspects of patient care in a safe environment.

Education/Qualifications

  • Associate Degree in Applied Science.
  • One year of experience preferred.
  • Current RCP from the Oklahoma State Board of Medical Licensure.
  • Preferred CRT or RRT credential from the National Board of Respiratory Care.
  • Current BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications (or obtained within 30 days of hire).
  • NRP certification preferred.

Physical Requirements

  • Constant walking and standing.
  • Ability to lift, push, and pull up to 50 lbs.
  • Strength and agility to position patients for evaluations.
