About the Role
Provides respiratory therapy and performs diagnostic and therapeutic procedures related to cardiopulmonary disorders as ordered by a physician, in accordance with established standards and practices. The role is performed appropriately for the age population served as defined in the department's scope of service.

Responsibilities
- Performs respiratory care procedures without direct supervision.
- Delivers and correctly sets up equipment.
- Monitors patients on continuous ventilation as defined by department policy.
- Monitors environmental control systems to ensure quality and safety standards are met 100% of the time.
- Observes patients, checks equipment, and makes adjustments as necessary, adhering to department standards of care.
- Discontinues therapy as ordered; applies emergency protocols when needed.
- Maintains established hospital and departmental quality assurance, safety, and infection control policies and procedures.
- Assists with and participates in the development and implementation of QA and QI functions.
- Follows established departmental safety and infection control policies and procedures.
- Cleans and checks equipment to ensure it is sterile and ready for patient use 100% of the time.
- Collaborates with medical staff on the effectiveness of respiratory treatment as it relates to the patient and family plan of care.
- Handles medications safely and securely.
- Provides staff education through in-service presentations; serves as a mentor and resource to other staff.
- Demonstrates current knowledge of professional and technological changes and assesses education needs.
- Develops staff education in-services that are consistently evaluated as excellent and pertinent.
- Seeks opportunities to enhance staff knowledge through mentoring and modeling proper procedures.
- Performs all other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Current Louisiana License as a Registered Respiratory Therapist.
- CPR Certified.
- NRP, PALS, and ACLS preferred.
- One year of experience in an acute care hospital preferred.
Additional Requirements
HIPAA Requirements: Maintains knowledge of and adherence to all applicable HIPAA regulations, including but not limited to: medical records (paper and electronic), patient demographics, lab and radiology results, patient information related to surgery or appointment schedules, patient location, religious beliefs, public health records, patient financial and third-party billing, patient-related complaints, research information, and investigatory information.
Safety Requirements: Maintains knowledge of and adherence to all applicable safety practices, including but not limited to: incident reporting, handling of wastes, sharps and linen, PPE, exposure control plans, hand washing, environment of care, patient identification, administering/receiving/collecting meds/blood, orders or products, validation, transporting, monitoring or observing patients for procedures (including infusion pumps), and monitoring clinical alarms for all ages.
