Respiratory Therapist - CFMH (Flex/PRN)

About the role

The Respiratory Care Practitioner II provides advanced respiratory care services, performs clinical assessments, collaborates with the healthcare team, and supports development and evaluation of patient care plans. ACLS and BLS required.

Responsibilities

• Performs basic and advanced therapeutic, diagnostic, and life‑support respiratory care procedures in general and intensive patient care areas or home care environment.
• Assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates patient care to achieve optimum outcomes for patients of all ages as appropriate to service area.
• Completes, documents, and uses age‑specific ongoing assessments to develop a plan of care.
• Collaborates with healthcare team, patient, and family to develop, implement, and evaluate an age‑specific interdisciplinary plan of care; revises plan according to changes in patient status.
• Accurately administers and documents treatments and medications for patients of all ages.
• Identifies patient/family (caregiver) educational needs in a timely manner, incorporates them into the plan of care, implements and documents appropriately.
• Actively participates in performance improvement programs by obtaining desired outcomes.
• Assures personal and professional development through participation in educational activities and completion of annual competency validation.
• Consistently acts as a patient advocate, protector of patient rights, and provider of psychological, social, and cultural support.
• Applies knowledge of growth and development to appropriately care for patients served.
• Determines and performs within clinical, leadership, and/or education pathways to support evidence‑based, quality patient care service and performance improvement.
• Exhibits clinical expertise in rapidly changing circumstances.
• Plans strategies to reduce length of stay, turnaround time, resource consumption, and improve patient outcomes.
• Functions as a role model for clinical practice to coworkers, students, and physicians.
• Manages resources, establishes priorities, and modifies environment to meet patient care needs.
• Facilitates resolution to patient and staff situations that present in the work area.
• Provides orientation to new employees.
• Provides feedback to staff using appropriate communication and documentation.
• Provides input into practice, environment, and work issues by participating in unit, hospital, and/or organization activities that facilitate staff participation in decision making.
• Assists with providing educational activities for the respiratory care department, other hospital departments, and the community.

Requirements

Education

• Respiratory Therapy degree from a CoARC (Committee on Accreditation for Respiratory Care) accredited program required.

Experience

• None required.

Licensure, Certification & Registration

• Licensed Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) by the Virginia Board of Medicine required.
• Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential from the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) required.

Other Minimum Qualifications

• Effective interpersonal, communication, and teamwork skills required.

Pay

Compensation range: $30.47 – $45.71 per hour. Employee pay is based on qualifications, credentials, education, and prior work experience. The range does not include benefits or pension plan.
