Respiratory Equipment Technician
Job Description
The Respiratory Equipment Technician at Split Rock Rehabilitation & Health Care Center supports the Respiratory Therapy Department by ensuring all respiratory equipment is clean, functional, stocked, and ready for patient care. This role involves maintaining ventilators, oxygen equipment, aerosol devices, suction equipment, and department inventory, while also assisting in delivering outstanding care to long-term ventilator and pulmonary residents.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Clean, disinfect, inspect, assemble, and test respiratory equipment before reuse.
- Perform routine operational checks on ventilators, BiPAP/CPAP devices, oxygen concentrators, aerosol equipment, suction devices, pulse oximeters, and related equipment.
- Remove damaged or malfunctioning equipment from service and notify the Respiratory Manager.
- Care for and coordinate repairs with biomedical engineering or approved vendors.
- Maintain adequate inventory of respiratory supplies including: Ventilator circuits HME filters Suction catheters Nebulizer kits Oxygen tubing Tracheostomy supplies Humidification equipment Emergency respiratory supplies.
- Receive and organize deliveries. Monitor expiration dates. Assist with monthly inventory counts.
- Deliver respiratory equipment throughout the facility. Prepare equipment for new admissions. Assist Respiratory Therapists with equipment setup. Exchange oxygen cylinders and maintain emergency oxygen supplies. Ensure crash airway equipment is stocked and ready.
- Complete equipment cleaning logs. Maintain preventative maintenance records. Document equipment failures. Track inventory usage.
- Follow OSHA, CDC, and facility infection control guidelines. Properly disinfect all reusable respiratory equipment. Report unsafe equipment immediately. Maintain a clean and organized work environment.
Experience & Skills
- Healthcare or medical equipment experience preferred.
- Respiratory, DME, biomedical, or central sterile experience preferred.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Basic computer proficiency.
- Mechanical aptitude.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Ability to prioritize multiple tasks.
- Attention to detail.
Physical Requirements
- Lift up to 50 pounds.
- Push and pull medical equipment carts.
- Frequent walking throughout the facility.
- Standing for extended periods.
- Occasional bending, kneeling, and reaching.

The technician does not provide direct respiratory therapy but serves as an essential support member of the respiratory care team.
