About the role

The Respiratory Equipment Technician performs indirect patient care functions under the supervision of a licensed Respiratory Therapist. The Technician assists with daily patient care needs, including collecting, cleaning, and setting up equipment, and enforcing safety rules related to equipment. The role may involve collecting test specimens from units for the respiratory therapist and assisting during procedures.

The Technician ensures all respiratory equipment is ready for use and maintains a clean, organized equipment supply room. They work with department leadership to ensure timely ordering of supplies and assist customers in a friendly, prompt, and caring manner while maintaining confidentiality and respect. This position is part of the care team, supporting team objectives and assisting other team members as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Respiratory Therapist with daily patient care needs.
  • Collect, clean, and set up respiratory equipment.
  • Enforce safety rules related to equipment.
  • Collect test specimens from units for the respiratory therapist as required.
  • Assist the Respiratory Therapist during procedures.
  • Ensure all respiratory equipment is ready for use at all times.
  • Maintain a clean and organized equipment supply room.
  • Work with department leadership to ensure timely ordering of supplies.
  • Assist customers in a friendly, prompt, and caring manner while maintaining confidentiality.
  • Support team objectives and assist other team members when necessary.

Requirements

  • Associate degree or active enrollment in a Respiratory Therapy program, with completion required within two (2) years.
  • BLS certification required within 30 days of hire or transfer.
  • New Jersey Respiratory Care License required within 27 months of hire or transfer.
  • Ability to speak and write in English; knowledge of medical terminology required.
  • Interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with team members.
  • Ability to be flexible, set priorities, solve problems, and use good judgment in difficult situations.
  • Proficiency in Clinical Applications preferred at hire; training provided within 30-60 days if not already proficient.

Work Environment

Potential for exposure to bloodborne pathogens and infectious diseases. Essential functions of this position are performed in accordance with established safety protocols.
