Responsibilities
- Performs ABG punctures according to NAH Policy.
- Provides proper concentration of pharmacological solutions and administers treatments as prescribed by MD or licensed independent practitioner, monitoring for effectiveness.
- Records patient vital signs including breath sounds, ventilator status, mental status, and response to treatment.
- Identifies patients and verifies orders before administering any treatment or respiratory care.
- Sets ventilator parameters according to established patient protocol and doctors' orders.
- Plays a role in the placement of E.T. tubes, minimizing trauma to the patient’s face, mouth, and trachea.
- Demonstrates timely and accurate documentation of assessments, interventions, EMR entries, and patient responses.
- Assembles, disassembles, operates, maintains, troubleshoots, cleans, and performs minor repairs on equipment.
- Educates patients on therapy and prescribed medications/therapy given prior to discharge, documenting patient understanding.
- Reports any safety-related incidents in a timely manner through the Midas/RDE tool; attends all safety-related training programs; performs work in a safe manner; monitors work environment for safety issues and ensures others are also performing work safely.
- Adheres to regulatory and organizational standards affecting patient care and safety as well as all hospital and departmental policies and procedures.
- Practices in a safe and cost-effective manner.
Qualifications
- Education: Associates Degree from an AMA Respiratory Therapy Program.
- Certification & Licensures: Licensed by the Arizona Board of Respiratory Care Examiners; Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) from the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC); BLS, ACLS, PALS, NRP within 90 days from date of hire and/or providing care in special care nursery.
- Experience: One year of experience preferred.
