About the role

The Respiratory Care Practitioner III position at Mary Immaculate Hospital is open to experienced Respiratory Therapists who can take advantage of a $20,000 sign-on bonus.
Responsibilities
- Provides respiratory care through patient assessment, planning, intervention, education, and evaluation.
- Performs respiratory care procedures including oxygen and aerosolized medication delivery, ventilator care, bronchial hygiene therapy, diagnostic services, and patient and staff education.
- Makes recommendations to change or modify interventions based on patient assessments.
- May provide clinical instruction and/or in-service training to department staff, other healthcare team members, and students.
- Supports clinical learning through mentorship, clinical rounds, and practice evaluation.
- Advances professional respiratory practice by leading clinical research initiatives and ensuring education, training, and implementation of study designs.
- Participates in facility councils and committees, and serves as the shift "Charge Therapist" ensuring adequate staffing levels.
- Assists with patient care areas and needs, including assigning respiratory care staff, modifying work assignments, and assisting with meal coverage.
- Performs procedures such as bronchoscopy, transtracheal catheter insertion, tracheotomy, and invasive monitoring.
- Conducts prescribed therapeutic procedures to maintain a patient's airway, including use of appropriate airways and documentation.
- Maintains and evaluates mechanical ventilators, performs pulmonary function tests, and assists with arterial punctures and analysis.
- Instructs patients and families in various therapies and educates them on oxygen therapy, ventilator care, and home aerosol therapy.
- Assesses patient's physical status and determines appropriateness of prescribed therapy, recommending changes to the physician as needed.
- Administers intermittent positive pressure breathing, aerosol therapy, postural drainage, and percussion, and evaluates patient responses.
- Monitors patient's response to therapies and makes adjustments as necessary.
Requirements
- Current Respiratory Care License in the state they are working.
- National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) credentialed.
- Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT).
- BLS Basic Life Support from the American Heart Association.
- ACLS Advanced Cardiac Life Support from the American Heart Association or Red Cross.
- PALS Pediatric Advanced Life Support from the American Heart Association.
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) from AAP/AWHONN (preferred).
- Certified Pulmonary Function Technologist (CPFT) or Registered Pulmonary Function Technologist (RPFT).
- ACCS (Adult Critical Care Specialist) from NBRC (preferred).
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Respiratory Therapy, Healthcare, Healthcare Administration, or Business Administration (preferred).
- Master's Degree in Respiratory Therapy, Healthcare, Healthcare Administration, or Business Administration (preferred).
- Two years of experience as a Registered Respiratory Therapist or five years as a Certified Respiratory Care Practitioner.
- Demonstrated Clinical Competency in at least two of the following environments: Nursery/NICU, PICU, ICU/CCU, ED, and general care areas.
