About the role
Bon Secours is a faith-based and patient-focused organization dedicated to enhancing the health and well-being of all people through exceptional patient care. The Respiratory Care Practitioner II position is essential in maintaining patient airways and implementing various therapeutic procedures.
Responsibilities
- Serves as the shift “Charge Therapist” and ensures adequate respiratory care staff coverage.
- Aids physicians in procedures such as bronchoscopy, tracheotomy intubation, and tracheostomy endotracheal tube changes.
- Performs CPR, including closed chest compressions and airway management, following AHA ACLS protocol.
- Administers oxygen therapy, aerosolized medications, and performs diagnostic procedures.
- Maintains mechanical ventilators and performs pulmonary function tests.
- Trains new team members and students in respiratory care practices.
- Evaluates patient responses to therapy and adjusts treatment plans accordingly.
- Assists with arterial punctures and ABG aspirations.
- Provides patient education on various respiratory care techniques and equipment.
- Monitors and evaluates patient progress and collaborates with healthcare providers.
Requirements
- Current Respiratory Care License in the state of practice.
- National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) credentialed.
- Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) certification preferred.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certifications from the American Heart Association or Red Cross.
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification from the American Heart Association.
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification from the AAP/AWHONN.
- Certified Pulmonary Function Technologist (CPFT) or Registered Pulmonary Function Technologist (RPFT) certification preferred.
- Adult Critical Care Specialist (ACCS) certification from the NBRC preferred.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Respiratory Therapy, Healthcare, Healthcare Administration, or Business Administration (preferred).
- Two years of experience as a Respiratory Care Professional.

- Knowledge of non-invasive respiratory therapy equipment and therapeutic procedures.
- Understanding of EKGs, electronic monitoring, lead placement, and basic arrhythmias.
- Experience with arterial blood gas punctures and testing.
- Knowledge of chest suction equipment and X-ray interpretation.
