About the role

Provides respiratory care to patients in varying states of health and illness by assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of the respiratory plan of care. Functions as an essential member of the multidisciplinary healthcare team, providing direct patient care, instruction and preparation for continuing care after discharge.

Responsibilities

  • Assesses patients' respiratory status and develops individualized treatment plans.
  • Administers respiratory treatments including nebulizers, oxygen therapy, and mechanical ventilation.
  • Monitors patients' vital signs and adjusts treatments as necessary.
  • Collaborates with other healthcare professionals to ensure comprehensive patient care.
  • Prepares patients for discharge and educates them on self-care techniques.
  • Participates in ongoing professional development and maintains certification.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an Associate Degree Level CoARC accredited educational program for Respiratory Care.
  • Minimum 1 year Respiratory Care Practitioner experience.
  • Current VT State license.
  • BLS Certification through American Heart Association.
  • Certification in ACLS, PALS and NRP within 60 days of hire.
  • Completion of Cardiac Dysrhythmia course (Stress Testing Therapist).
  • Registration as a Respiratory Care Practitioner (does not apply to practitioners hired prior to 12/31/03).
  • Completion of clinical competency for endotracheal intubation and other required competencies.

Skills

  • Basic EKG interpretation skills.
  • Knowledge of respiratory care assessment and mechanical ventilation management.
  • Ability to administer surfactants to newborns.
  • Working knowledge of respiratory equipment and the use of Heliox.
  • Completion of clinical competency for endotracheal intubation and other required competencies.
  • Basic Microsoft Windows desktop application and navigation skills.
  • Able to be on-call and work off-shifts (nights, weekends and holidays).
  • Able to provide expert level of direct clinical care.
  • Able to apply critical thinking to all aspects of patient care.
  • Conflict resolution skills.
  • Able to lead shifts in absence of leadership.
