About the Role

These positions are located in the Office of Field Operations, Regulatory Operations, District Offices. The district office is responsible for the overall management of an inspection and enforcement program involving meat, poultry, and egg products in several states. The incumbents have responsibility for coordinating a variety of staffing and related functions to ensure proper and adequate coverage of inspection assignments.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze problems to identify significant factors, gather pertinent data, and recognize solutions.
  • Plan and organize work.
  • Communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • Assist in researching and interpreting basic regulations and guides.
  • Assist in the development of staffing reports.
  • Answer routine inquiries from the field and customers on personnel and management issues.
  • Manage personnel files and records.
  • Maintain, coordinate calendars, and events.
  • Compile and assemble data, create, and maintain spreadsheets related to personnel, training, leave, staffing, or other administrative requirements.
  • Research inquiries and provide guidance and advisory services to customers at multiple levels related to staffing.
  • Coordinate training events and provide input or recommendations for training requirements.

Applicants must meet all qualifications and eligibility requirements by the closing date of the announcement, including specialized experience and/or education.

Qualifications

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

  • For the GS-5 level: Applicants must have one year of General Experience: 3 years of progressively responsible experience, 1 year of which was equivalent to at least GS-4.
  • For the GS-7 level: Applicants must have one year of specialized experience (equivalent to the GS-5 level) that demonstrates:
    • Assisting in researching and interpreting basic regulations and guides.
    • Assisting in the development of staffing reports.
    • Answering routine inquiries from the field and customers on personnel and management issues.
    • Personnel management and files/records management experience.
    • Maintaining and coordinating calendars and events.
    • Compiling and assembling data, creating, and maintaining spreadsheets, personnel, training, leave, staffing, or other administrative requirements.
  • For the GS-09 level: Applicants must have one year of specialized experience (equivalent to the GS-07 level) that demonstrates:
    • Researching inquiries and providing guidance and advisory services to customers at multiple levels related to staffing.
    • Maintaining personnel management and file/records management.
    • Coordinating training events and providing input or recommendations for training requirements.
    • Researching and interpreting basic regulations and guides.
    • Assisting in the development of staffing reports.
    • Assisting in providing services to customers at multiple levels related to staffing.

The USDA Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) is the public health regulatory agency responsible for ensuring the safety of meat, poultry, and processed eggs.
