Thompson was founded in 1886 as an orphanage and operates across the Carolinas, Florida, Tennessee, and Kentucky. Its continuum of care includes prevention, mental health services, and foster care, all trauma-informed and evidence-based.
About the Role
As a Residential Youth Care Specialist, you will provide care, supervision, structure, and build a therapeutic relationship with youth in your care. You will work with various functional professionals and support the treatment process of each youth.
Responsibilities
- Typical day includes fun activities and care of youth while in residence, ages 10-17, males or females who are highly acute and potentially aggressive.
- Support the treatment process of each youth.
- Complete other tasks as assigned by your Supervisor.
Requirements
- BA/BS Degree in the Human Services field strongly preferred.
- High School diploma/GED and two years' relevant experience working with youth will be considered in lieu of BA/BS degree.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite application software.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Excellent communication skills and a passion for working with youth.

Physical Requirements
- While performing the duties of this job, employees are required to walk, sit, use hands to handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; talk and hear.
- Vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distant vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
- Employees will perform a wide variety of physical tasks such as standing, walking, running, stooping, bending, climbing stairs and lifting of individuals, which requires strength, coordination, endurance, and agility.
- The employee must be agile enough to control and rapidly extricate him/herself and children and youths from buildings in case of an emergency.
- The employee must be capable of running a distance as required in the apprehension of a fleeing youth.
Qualifications
