Residential Support

About the role

This position provides direct support to the residential program at Avondale House, a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit agency serving individuals with autism since 1976. The role ensures the smooth operation of an assigned residential home through coordination of house duties and implementation of each individual’s IEP/IPP.

Responsibilities

• Implement target goals and objectives as written on each individual’s IEP/IPP.
• Keep daily data and records on each individual’s performance.
• Provide and/or supervise daily nutritional, health, and hygiene care for all assigned individuals.
• Ensure sufficient food and cleaning supplies are available in each residence.
• Accompany residents to routine and emergency doctor’s appointments.
• Conduct daily correspondence with appropriate persons as needed.
• Supervise the self-administration of medication program.
• Ensure resident participation in community-based instruction (CBI), including grocery and supply shopping and other recreational outings.
• Attend all in-service training classes as scheduled.
• Ensure completion and entry into the Reboot system of daily house documentation, including fire drill reports, daily progress notes, cleaning checklists, incident reports, medication administration, attendance records, and other required documents.
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of the entire residence, including bedrooms, closets, and drawers.
• Work with staff throughout Avondale House to meet the needs of each client.

Requirements

• Ability to work in a way that demonstrates Avondale House’s Core Values: Commitment, Achievement, Respect, Integrity, Nurturing, and Growth.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• At least 1 year of experience working in a residential setting, preferably with individuals with autism or related handicapping conditions.
• CPR certified.
• Computer skills.
• Patient, authoritative personality.
• Valid driver’s license.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to implement non-violent crisis intervention.
• Lifting/moving up to 50 lbs and lifting/moving up to 100 lbs or more with assistance.
• Ability to stand on your feet for 2–3 hours at a time.
• Stooping, bending, lifting, carrying, kneeling, pushing, and pulling may be required.
• Must be capable of physically restraining clients if necessary.
• Must be able to handle situations that may be stressful at times.
