Position Summary

The Residential Support plays a vital role in maintaining the safety, structure, and therapeutic environment of the residential treatment facility. This position is responsible for conducting client head counts, supervising clients to ensure safety and compliance, observing client behavior and interactions, and administering urine analysis (UA) testing in accordance with facility policy. Residential Support contribute to the overall treatment process by monitoring clients’ participation and adherence to program expectations, promptly reporting any safety concerns or behavioral observations to the treatment team and ensuring all facility operations run smoothly during assigned shifts.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Client Safety & Supervision
    • Conduct regular client head counts at assigned intervals to ensure all clients are accounted for.
    • Monitor clients throughout the facility to maintain safety and structure.
    • Conduct UA testing and document results per established protocols.
    • Observe and report client behavior, mood, and participation in treatment activities.
    • Enforce facility rules and boundaries with professionalism and consistency.
    • Identify and respond appropriately to emergencies, safety concerns, or behavioral incidents.
    • Support a clean, orderly, and therapeutic living environment.
    • Monitor discharge process for clients leaving the facility.
  • Facility Operations
    • Attend and participate in special events, conferences, workshops, and trainings.
    • Engage in ongoing in-service and other required training activities.
    • Monitor client movement during scheduled activities, meals, and group sessions.
    • Complete room and area inspections for cleanliness, safety, and compliance with facility standards.
    • Document shift activities, head counts, observations, and incidents in daily logs and electronic records.
    • Communicate any client concerns, incidents, or policy violations to supervisory or clinical staff promptly.
  • Team Collaboration & Communication
    • Work collaboratively with counselors, clinical staff, and other team members to support client care and program operations.
    • Attend staff meetings, trainings, and shift handoffs as required.
    • Maintain confidentiality and adhere to all facility policies and procedures.
  • Other Duties as Assigned
    • Perform administrative tasks such as filing, copying, and answering phones.
    • Absorb transportation, meal service, or other support functions as needed.
    • Participate in safety drills, crisis response, and emergency preparedness activities.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Experience
    • Previous experience working in a residential or behavioral health setting preferred.
    • Experience in client monitoring and safety/security roles a plus.
  • Education
    • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Certifications
    • Must hold current CPR and First Aid certification or obtain certification within 30 days of hire (training provided by employer).
  • Other Requirements
    • Valid California Driver’s License (required), and insurability under company policy.
    • FBI/DOJ fingerprint clearance, negative TB test, and drug screening prior to hire.
    • Bilingual in Spanish (preferred).
    • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and overnight as scheduled.
  • Knowledge & Skills
    • Familiarity with addiction treatment resources, relapse prevention, and recovery support systems.
    • Ability to work with diverse populations with sensitivity and professionalism.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and basic computer use.
    • Must be able to perform CPR and respond to medical emergencies as needed.

  • Physical, Sensory, Environmental Qualifications
    • Physical Requirements
      • This position primarily operates in an office or clinical environment. The role requires sufficient physical ability and mobility to:
      • Sit, stand, and walk for extended periods, including walking between buildings and up and down stairs
      • Frequently lift, carry, push, and/or pull up to 50 pounds
      • Absist with client mobility and repositioning as needed
      • Perform repetitive hand movements including keyboarding, grasping, and reaching to operate standard office and medical equipment (e.g., computer, mouse, telephone, blood pressure cuffs)
      • Occasionally stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and twist
      • Must be physically capable of performing CPR, including kneeling, applying chest compressions, and using emergency response equipment
    • Vision Requirements
      • Ability to see at close range, at a distance, peripherally, and to adjust focus
      • Depth perception required for tasks such as reading, computer use, and navigating the workspace
    • Communication Requirements
      • Ability to clearly communicate verbally with coworkers, supervisors, clients, and medical professionals
      • Ability to hear within normal audio range, with or without corrective devices
