About the role

We are searching for a Residential Plans Examiner to join our team at the Clackamas County Department of Transportation & Development. If selected, you will join the Building Codes Division, which administers the State of Oregon building, mechanical, fire alarm, sprinklers, plumbing, electrical, and Clackamas County ordinances and regulations. Your main focus will be reviewing 1‑ and 2‑family dwelling building plans and plans for related accessory structures for compliance with the State of Oregon Residential Specialty Code, including residential structural, mechanical, and life safety codes. You will also have the opportunity to review other types of plans and specifications related to residential construction projects and to write plan review letters and other correspondence regarding necessary code corrections. Demonstrating excellent communication skills and a strong collaborative approach is critical, as you will interact with the public to provide codes and permits information and cooperate with fire prevention officials and others during plan reviews and inspections.

Responsibilities

  • Review 1‑ and 2‑family dwelling building plans and related accessory structures for compliance with the State of Oregon Residential Specialty Code (structural, mechanical, life safety).
  • Review other types of plans and specifications related to residential construction projects.
  • Write plan review letters and correspondence regarding necessary code corrections.
  • Interact with the public to provide codes and permits information.
  • Cooperate with fire prevention officials and others on projects during plan reviews and inspections.
