About the Role

The Residential Peer Support Specialist will support programs in the Junction City region. They will meet each new resident at admission to the program and support the individual in feeling welcome, answer their questions, provide compassionate support, and guide them in articulating any self-determined goals they may want to work on while at the residential treatment facility.

The position will engage in one-to-one conversations with residents to build trust, utilize strategic self-disclosure to build connection and normalize mental health challenges, and support individuals in connecting with community peer support systems. This position will facilitate and coordinate peer groups where residents can discuss their unique recovery stories and challenges.

In addition, the Residential Peer Support Specialist will receive crisis de-escalation training, which requires performing various physical, hands-on maneuvers and techniques. This position falls under the AFSCME bargaining unit. Wages, benefits, and working conditions are set in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement.

About the Program

Madrone Ridge, Manzanita Ridge, and McKenzie Ridge are secure, co-ed, 8-bed programs serving adults living with a mental illness. These beautiful, newer buildings are located on the grounds of the Junction City Hospital.

Responsibilities

  • Meet each new resident at admission to provide welcome and support
  • Engage in one-to-one conversations to build trust and connection
  • Utilize strategic self-disclosure to normalize mental health challenges
  • Support residents in connecting with community peer support systems
  • Facilitate and coordinate peer groups for residents to discuss recovery stories and challenges
  • Perform crisis de-escalation techniques, including physical maneuvers

Requirements

  • Personal experience with mental health challenges
  • Certified and Registered as a Peer Support Specialist (PSS) or Peer Wellness Specialist (PWS) through the Oregon Health Authority (OHA)
  • Valid driver’s license from state of residence (or obtain within 30 days of hire)
  • Ability to pass a DHS criminal background check
  • Must be 18 or older at the time of hire (per OAR 309-035-0135)

Physical Requirements

  • Frequently talk, listen, use hands and fingers, reach, stand, walk, sit, bend, stoop, and climb stairs
  • Lift, carry, push, and pull up to 40 pounds
  • Occasionally use ladders, squat/kneel, and perform other physical tasks
  • Successfully complete crisis de-escalation and CPR trainings, which require physical maneuvers and may involve lifting and transferring clients

Skills

Pay

$24.64 - $26.15 per hour, based on experience and credentials.

Additional pay differentials (subject to position, program, and eligibility):

  • Night Shift (NOC) Differential: $3.00 per hour for hours worked between 10:00 PM and 8:30 AM (minimum 2.5 hours within this period)
  • Secure Program Differential: $2.00 per hour for all hours worked in an eligible CCS secure program
  • Bilingual Differential: 5% pay differential for employees who meet the qualifications of the CCS Language/Bilingual Program

Schedule

Full-time, Monday through Friday, 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM.
