About the Role
The Shift Leader provides on-site leadership and operational oversight during assigned overnight shifts to ensure a safe, structured, and supportive environment for clients in a drug and alcohol rehabilitation setting. This role supports client engagement in treatment programming, responds to crises, ensures compliance with facility policies and licensing requirements, and serves as a key point of contact. The Shift Leader documents and reports incidents, communicates with clinical and administrative teams, and promotes teamwork and recovery-oriented care. This is an awake position.
Responsibilities
- Maintain a safe, disciplined, and caring therapeutic environment with direct supervision of all clients.
- Assist in covering the responsibilities of the Residential Life Supervisor in their absence.
- Enforce CC-Straight & Narrow’s Policies & Procedures and Clients’ Handbook.
- Provide guidance and assign tasks to Residential Life Associates, filling in as needed.
- Cover shifts when understaffed.
- Provide crisis intervention and de-escalate incidents.
- Participate in client interventions, case conferences, and Multidisciplinary Team Meetings (MDT).
- Coordinate clients’ sick calls with the medical department.
- Ensure clients attend Outside Appointments (OSAs) and conduct searches upon their return.
- Prepare and verify the daily client count sheet.
- Schedule and supervise clients’ daily housekeeping tasks.
- Monitor and order program supplies.
- Conduct multiple daily room checks to ensure order.
- Complete and document client rounds every 30 minutes.
- Report and investigate damages to client rooms or common areas via the online repair system.
- Coordinate with food service personnel for meal adjustments and dietary restrictions.
- Greet and orient new clients appropriately.
- Wear assigned uniform and ensure staff compliance with the Dress Code Policy.
- Document client infractions/merits in the EHR system.
- Ensure adherence to clinical appointment schedules.
- Facilitate educational/didactic sessions for clients.
- Oversee family visits in a professional manner.
- Complete all daily tasks and endorse them to the incoming shift.
- Report staffing shortages immediately (1 staff per 24 clients during waking hours, 1 per 30 during sleeping hours, and 2 staff at all times).
- Follow all Electronic Health Records (EHR) policies and procedures.
- Complete Departmental Orientation within 30 days, including emergency procedures and reportable events.
- Coordinate and ensure facilitation of scheduled recreational activities.
- Provide approved non-prescription medication to clients as per policy.
- Cross-train in all CC-Straight & Narrow Programs as assigned.
- Facilitate and document psychoeducational and H&I group sessions.
- Transport clients using company vehicles for appointments.
- Conduct client drug and alcohol testing according to policy.
- Remain on shift until replacement arrives and report absences immediately.
- Conduct searches of clients’ person and property as per policy.
- Maintain ethical conduct and professional boundaries at all times.
- Engage clients with professionalism and courtesy, de-escalating challenging interactions.
- Refrain from using personal cell phones while on duty or supervising clients, except in emergencies.
Medicaid Credentialing & Documentation Compliance
- Maintain all Medicaid-required qualifications and credentialing standards for billable direct care services.
- Deliver services in accordance with Medicaid, NJ FamilyCare, and Managed Care Organization (MCO) requirements.
- Accurately document all services to support Medicaid billing, medical necessity, and audit review.
- Ensure documentation is timely, complete, and compliant with federal, state, and payer requirements.
- Adhere to requirements that services must be properly documented and performed by credentialed staff to be billable.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED; Associate degree preferred.
- One (1) year of supervisory experience.
- Working towards CADC/Recovery Specialist certification; addictions and mental health experience preferred.
- CPR/First Aid certification (or obtain within 30 days of hire).
- Good computer skills, including Microsoft programs and Electronic Health Records (EHR).
- Valid New Jersey driver’s license with no more than 5 points.
- Required to drive agency vehicles to transport clients regularly.

Pay
Regular salary: $17.50–$18.50 per hour.
Schedule
Wednesday–Sunday, 12:00 AM–8:00 AM (overnight).
