Residential Drivers for the Waste Industry

About the Role

Waste Pro Residential Drivers operate refuse collection vehicles on pre-assigned and special routes to pick up garbage, yard waste, or recycling. Drivers oversee helpers on assigned routes, perform pre-trip and post-trip truck checks and cleaning, and handle other related tasks. Waste Pro offers a $10,000 driver award every 3 years for drivers who meet specific criteria.

Responsibilities

• Safely drive truck on pre-established routes in accordance with Decision Driving principles within prescribed time.
• Collect and dump garbage and refuse into refuse trucks while covering a designated residential route.
• Unload refuse trucks at landfills, transfer stations, or similar facilities.
• Provide courteous and efficient customer service to the public and customers.
• Ensure garbage and recyclables are picked up and transferred properly, including back-door pickups.
• Tag improper refuse containers and waste.
• Perform daily pre- and post-trip inspections as per Waste Pro procedures and D.O.T. guidelines.
• Complete Safety Lane activity and DVIR daily in accordance with Waste Pro safety lane guidelines, including under-hood inspections, under-carriage checks, fluid level checks, and tire pressure monitoring.
• Maintain clean truck and wash exterior weekly.
• Perform manual duties such as cleaning scattered refuse and moving/emptying large trash bins using truck hydraulics.
• Prepare, maintain, and submit required company and regulation-mandated reports.
• Supervise all personnel working on the vehicle during the route.
• Comply with all Department of Transportation and State requirements for commercial motor vehicle operators.
• Respond to emergency situations as required.
• Attend and participate in corporation-sponsored training courses.
• Stay updated on current technology relevant to the role.
• Perform any additional duties assigned by a supervisor.

Work Environment

Works in varied environmental conditions, including extreme temperatures, weather (heat, cold, snow, rain, wind), noise, vibrations, fumes, odors, and dust.
