Residential Drivers for the Waste Industry

About the Role

Waste Pro Automated Side Load Drivers operate refuse collection vehicles on pre-assigned and special routes to pick up garbage, yard waste, or recycling. Drivers oversee helpers on assigned routes, perform pre-trip and post-trip truck checks and cleaning, and handle other related tasks. Waste Pro offers a $10,000 driver award every 3 years for drivers who meet specific criteria.

Responsibilities

• Safely drive truck on pre-established routes in accordance with Decision Driving principles within prescribed time.
• Collect and dump garbage and refuse into refuse trucks while covering a designated residential route.
• Unload refuse trucks at landfills, transfer stations, or similar facilities.
• Provide exceptional customer service to the public and customers in all aspects of refuse operations.
• Ensure garbage and recyclables at residences are picked up and transferred properly, including back-door pickup when required.
• Tag improper refuse containers and waste.
• Perform daily pre- and post-trip inspections as set forth by Waste Pro procedures and D.O.T. guidelines, including safety lane activities and DVIR.
• Inspect under the hood, check undercarriage, fluid levels, and air tires; maintain clean truck and wash exterior weekly.
• Clean up scattered refuse and move/empty large trash bins using truck hydraulics.
• Prepare, maintain, and submit required company and regulation-mandated reports and documents.
• Supervise all personnel working on the vehicle during the designated route.
• Comply with all Department of Transportation and State requirements for operators of commercial motor vehicles.

Requirements

• Class A or B CDL valid for the state in which the position works.
• Clean driving record.
• At least 21 years of age.
• Understanding of refuse collection policies, procedures, guidelines, and D.O.T. requirements for commercial motor vehicle operators.
• Ability to hear and see within normal ranges with or without correction.
• Normal range of body motion to operate heavy equipment control levers.
• Ability to drive front-end, side, rear-end, or roll-off loading refuse trucks, including right-hand driver’s position on certain equipment, while observing legal and defensive driving practices.
• Follow designated refuse collection routes or work schedules.
• Understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
• Maintain written records and service responses.
• Speak and read English well enough to communicate with customers, co-workers, dispatch, and supervisors, understand highway and traffic signals, and make legible entries on paperwork.
