Responsibilities

  • Build a relationship based on respect, to enable you to offer support, guidance and direction when appropriate
  • Facilitate any area in which someone may need support in order to achieve full life, such as buying clothes, sending birthday cards, mending clothes, redecorating a room
  • Encourage, teach and assist with household, community and personal responsibilities such as shopping, cleaning, banking, doctor appointments
  • Support people in social situations to learn to feel comfortable and confident with others through appropriate interactions and build positive relationships
  • Offer support, respect and feedback to other team members
  • Ensure communication is clear, concise and honest
  • Attend staff meetings and contribute professionally
  • Cover assigned shifts or find a suitable replacement, give adequate notice and inform the team
  • Share and contribute ideas, knowledge, questions, feelings
  • Respect the workplace physical structure, keep it clean, safe and secure for those we support
  • Assist in meal preparation
  • Administer medication correctly
  • Be aware of and competent in dealing with individual medical needs, such as seizures, health concerns, allergies etc.
  • Attend regularly and consistently to personal care needs such as bathing, hygiene, grooming etc. in a dignifying and respectful manner
  • Accompany individuals to doctors’ appointments
  • Read and initial the consult sheet and follow through with the information given by the doctor
  • Order supplies in advance to ensure they arrive when needed, such as medication, gloves etc.
  • Read staff meeting minutes
  • Meet with team leader periodically for open communication
  • Qualifications and Skills

    • A high school diploma or equivalent required
    • Previous experience in supporting people with disabilities is a plus, but not required with other relevant experience
    • Basic computer literacy to complete case notes and timesheets
    • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
    • Punctuality and consistent attendance are essential

    Pay

    $19.44 per hour

    Requirements

    We are currently seeking DSPs who are available to work on the weekends. Shifts can run from 9am to 3pm, 3pm to 9pm, or 9am to 9pm.

    Skills
