Location: Wilmington, NC (New Hanover County) – on-site, full-time position with 12-hour day and night shifts available.
About the Role
Energetic, committed individuals are needed to provide direct care for youth in a facility serving runaway, homeless, street, emergency foster care, and long-term residential care. This role involves facilitating supervision, recreational activities, life skills coaching, and day-to-day shelter/residential management, including meal preparation and maintenance. You will work in a 24-hour residential environment, providing crisis intervention and direct services for walk-in clients aged 6–18.
Responsibilities
- Provide direct program and services to youth and their families, including information and treatment services while adolescents reside in a 24-hour residential shelter.
- Maintain coverage for crisis and walk-in clients needing direction, assistance, and support.
- Deliver services such as individual, family, and group support, manage staffing and physical/leisure needs for youth, and ensure educational progress.
- Assure youth receive food, shelter, medical services, and basic physical needs.
- Apply appropriate intervention techniques and make referrals as needed.
- Work a flexible schedule, including overnights, weekends, holidays, and extended periods.
- Provide crisis intervention support for walk-in clients and make community referrals.
- Conduct client intake, plan assessments, and ongoing interaction with agencies/individuals involved with clients.
- Arrange supportive services and serve as a court advocate when needed.
- Document contact intervention forms and daily client chart notes.
- Plan and supervise educational and recreational activities for clients.
- Perform food preparation and general shelter cleanup duties.
- Participate in staff meetings, trainings, and other assigned duties.
- Transport clients to schools, appointments, recreational activities, and other engagements.
Requirements
- Must be 21 years or older.
- Associate’s degree (2-year) in human services or related field (or higher).
- One year of experience in counseling or working with youth.
- Current North Carolina driver’s license with a good driving record.
- Current CPR/First Aid Certification (or ability to obtain).
- Reliable transportation and a valid driver’s license/government-issued ID.
- Must pass a drug screen, national/state criminal record check, NC Health Care and Sex Offender Registry checks, and NC DSS Responsible Individual List check.
- Must provide documentation of a physical exam and TB test prior to employment.
- Subject to OSHA rules on bloodborne pathogens due to possible exposure to body fluids.
