About the role
Vinfen is a nonprofit organization offering community-based services to individuals with various disabilities and challenges. The role involves supporting people with intellectual and developmental disabilities in their communities, helping them access resources, and promoting their independence.
Responsibilities
- Aid individuals in integrating into their communities and fostering friendships.
- Support individuals in accessing community-based resources and organizing social and recreational activities.
- Empower individuals to make choices and advocate for themselves.
- Assist with the use of assistive technology and adaptive equipment to enhance independence.
- Encourage and support individuals in securing and maintaining community engagement opportunities.
- Provide training and support in various areas including rehabilitation, behavior management, and personal management skills.
- Facilitate the implementation of support plans and ensure compliance with regulatory policies.
- Perform hands-on tasks such as administering medication, managing finances, and ensuring home safety.
- Communicate with relevant parties and participate in staff meetings.
- Ensure compliance with company policies and procedures, including safe work practices and reporting incidents.
- Document all activities and incidents in a communication log.
- Provide transportation as needed and assess the physical and emotional status of individuals.
- Complete various paperwork and logs, including communication logs, activity schedules, and incident reports.
- Occasionally cover shifts in other homes/programs as assigned.
- Act as a human rights advocate and provide physical intervention or first aid in emergencies.
- Participate in developing and implementing treatment plans, including ISP/PSTPs and clinical programs.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Experience working with people with developmental disabilities and/or brain injury preferred.
- Strong time management and writing skills.
- At least 21 years old and hold a valid US driver’s license for at least 6 months.
- Must be able to obtain CPR, First Aid, and MAP certifications within 2 weeks, 150 days, and 90 days of employment, respectively.
- Must successfully complete Safety Care training within 90 days.
- Must pass a CORI, reference, national fingerprinting, and driving record check.
- Knowledge and use of advocacy techniques, empowerment, and self-advocacy techniques.
- Knowledge of crisis intervention techniques and sensitivity to cultural, religious, racial, disability, and gender issues.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively, adapt to different communication styles, and maintain confidentiality.
- High motivation to learn and practice new skills.
