About the Role
Ensures compliance with mandatory codes and regulations related to building construction to safeguard the general public.
Responsibilities
- Reviews and interprets building and structural construction documents for accurate compliance with the International Residential Building Code with South Carolina amendments, including electrical, plumbing, mechanical, structural, and civil details normally found on submitted drawings for building permits.
- Communicates both orally and in writing.
- Performs data entry, retrieval, and research using computer software.
- Works both independently and collaboratively to resolve complex differences in interpretation of codes with design professionals, contractors, and the general public.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Vocational or technical school training in building codes and building construction.
- Minimum of five years experience in new construction, engineering, and contracting with all trades, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Valid state driver’s license.
- Required certifications as mandated by law and state/local building code adoptions; ability to achieve certifications within specified timeframes.
- Basic computer skills.
