Residential ASL & Rear Loader Driver – CDL Required

About the role

DeKalb County Solid Waste Management seeks experienced CDL Drivers for Automated Side Loader (ASL) and Rear Loader opportunities. The position involves operating various types of trucks and equipment to collect and transport solid waste, ensuring timely route completion, and performing manual refuse collection.

Responsibilities

• Operate rear-loading, automated, semi-automated, and other heavy trucks and equipment to collect and transport solid waste along assigned routes.
• Position vehicles for safe and efficient collection, loading, and dumping of materials.
• Operate truck-mounted mechanisms to collect, secure, and compact solid waste.
• Maintain vehicle inspections and perform basic equipment maintenance.
• Monitor collection activities to ensure timely route completion.
• Ensure loads are properly balanced, covered, secured, and contained.
• Monitor the work environment to ensure the safety of employees, equipment, and the public.
• Owe all traffic laws, safety guidelines, and operating procedures.
• Perform manual refuse collection and other related duties as required.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED preferred.
• One year of experience operating heavy equipment and/or driving and operating heavy trucks.
• An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
• A valid Georgia Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).
• Some assignments may require a Class A CDL and/or special endorsements.

Qualifications

Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid 12-month DOT Medical Blue Card as a condition of employment for some departments.
