Key Responsibilities
- Drives a rear-load, split body, curotto, or automated-side load truck along designated routes to collect waste and transport it to post-collection facilities.
- Assists helpers in loading solid waste into the truck hopper as needed.
- Utilizes helpers while backing up according to Company policy.
- Ensures adherence to Company policies, procedures, safety compliance, and quality standards while on designated routes.
- Operates a mechanical packer to load and compact trash from the hopper into the truck body.
- Cleans waste from the packer blade and truck body after each landfill or transfer station run.
- Maintains and submits necessary logs and reports as required by law or company policy.
- Maneuvers the truck into and out of minimum clearance spaces using mirrors to back up.
- Follows safe operating practices, including lockout/tagout procedures.
- Monitors operations to detect loose debris and visually scans customer sites before and after dumping.
- Adheres to all DOT, OSHA, FMCSA, and EPA regulations and standards.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- A high school diploma or equivalent (GED) is preferred.
- A valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL), either Class A or B, is required.
- Must be at least 21 years old.
- One year of commercial driving experience or a CDL school certificate is required.
- Must meet relevant criteria for safety-sensitive functions according to Company standards.
- Must demonstrate the ability to safely operate the truck and equipment.
- Must have the ability to communicate effectively with both internal and external customers.
- Must be able to read, write, and comprehend associated documents and maps.
- Must be able to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
- Must be flexible to accept and adapt to change and committed to continuous improvement.
- Must be able to exert muscle force to lift, push, pull, or carry objects up to 50 pounds repetitively using proper lifting techniques.
- Must be able to coordinate two or more limbs (for example: two arms, two legs, or one leg and one arm) while sitting or standing.
- Must be able to follow all company safety policies and procedures.
Knowledge, Skills And Abilities
- Knowledge of the truck and its components and basic maintenance requirements.
- Ability to control operations of equipment and maneuver the truck into and out of minimum clearance spaces using mirrors to back up distances of approximately 120 feet or more.
- Ability to recognize unacceptable waste (such as gasoline or other flammable materials).
- Ability to communicate effectively with internal and external customers.
- Ability to read, write, and comprehend associated documents and maps.
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
- Flexibility to accept and adapt to change and commitment to continuous improvement.

Physical/Mental Demands
- Frequently stands, walks, uses hands and fingers, reaches, stoops, kneels, crouches, crawls, talks, hears, climbs, balances, and smells.
- May sit up to 75% of the time due to the primary function of driving.
- Frequently lifts/moves up to 25 pounds and occasionally lifts/moves up to 100 pounds.
- Works in usually loud conditions.
- Exposed to loud noise, humidity, rainy/stormy, extreme hot and cold weather conditions (depending on season), moving mechanical parts, vibration, toxic and caustic chemicals, fumes, and airborne particles.
- Works in an outdoor environment up to 100% of the time.
- Works route away from branch location on a continuous basis throughout the day.
- Occasionally works in high precarious places.
- Works in motor vehicle traffic conditions constantly.
- Works in a usually loud environment.
