Resident Transporter

About the Role

Extendicare Oakview Place provides a range of high-quality care and services based on the assessed needs of our residents. As a volunteer, you will assist residents during meal times and other activities, enhancing their dining experience and fostering social connections.

Responsibilities

• Assist residents in the elevator from their unit to the main floor
• Assist residents from the elevator to the dining room
• Assist residents from the dining room to the elevator
• Engage in conversations with residents
• Enhance the resident dining experience
• Assist with transporting residents to programs, special events, and appointments within the building

Requirements

• Must be able to speak, read, and write English
• Must be physically able to push wheelchairs
• Must be able to stand for 30-60 minutes
• Must be able to walk for 30-60 minutes
• Must commit to a 6-month term
• Must pass a criminal record check (cost not reimbursed)

Skills

• Required: English proficiency, physical ability to assist residents
• Gained: Experience working with the elderly
• Preferred Languages: Punjabi, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, Farsi

Schedule

• Meal Times:
  • Breakfast: 8:00 AM – 9:30 AM
  • Lunch: 11:45 AM – 1:15 PM
  • Supper: 4:30 PM – 6:00 PM
• Additional opportunities may arise to assist with programs, special events, and appointments throughout the day
• Availability: Daytime, Evening, Weekend

Eligibility

This opportunity is open to individuals aged 13 and above, including groups, families, and those fulfilling school credit requirements. Volunteers may attend with a support person and are encouraged if bilingual (French/English) or fluent in other languages (e.g., Punjabi, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, Farsi).
