About the role
The Associate Teacher is a non-licensed employee who commits to working on the requirements for a Virginia teaching license during the one-year employment period. You will fulfill classroom duties while following a fast-tracked educational route to qualifying for and obtaining a VDOE teaching license within one year.
Responsibilities
- Plans and delivers an instructional program consistent with school district goals and objectives.
- Promotes a safe, student-centered classroom environment and manages student behavior.
- Develops lesson plans and instructional materials; translates plans into learning experiences.
- Conducts ongoing assessment of student learning and modifies instruction to fit individual needs.
- Acquires professional knowledge through seminars, workshops, meetings, or research.
- Organizes and maintains accurate records for student activities, achievement, and attendance.
- Encourages parental involvement and ensures effective communication with students and parents.
- Manages learner behavior to maintain a conducive learning environment.
- Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local policies, regulations, and guidelines.
Requirements
- Must hold or be eligible for a Virginia teaching license with an endorsement in the appropriate subject area.
- Knowledge of current teaching methods, educational pedagogy, and differentiated instruction.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with students and parents.
- Demonstrated ability in decision making, problem analysis, conflict resolution, and planning.
- Must commit to creating a plan to complete licensure requirements by May 31 of each year.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
- Must be eligible for or possess a valid Collegiate Professional License from the State of Virginia.
