Resident Maintenance Technician
About the role
The Resident Maintenance Technician position at KNAPP involves providing comprehensive maintenance support for automated storage and retrieval systems and storage and picking systems installed at customer sites. This role requires a high level of expertise in electrical and mechanical systems, including the ability to handle complex repairs and ensure efficient system operation.
Responsibilities
- Rectify electro-mechanical faults and provide specialist technical assistance as a support technician
- Respond to emergency calls by the customer
- Ensure safety in all activities and promote successful task completion
- Provide first-class responses to customer inquiries, aiming for a first-time right policy
- Support the setup and calibration of precision automation equipment
- Build and maintain strong working relationships with customer and operational agents
- Achieve performance targets in terms of output, response speed, repair quality, and workmanship
- Train customer's maintenance teams as needed
- Install conveyor and precision automation equipment
- Maintain high-quality service by ensuring effective communication with customers
- Create and submit accurate time sheets and documents for approval
- Manage spare parts usage and report to the KNAPP Spare Parts team
- Maintain proper care and maintenance of tools and equipment
- Operate within a flexible schedule and utilize skills effectively
- Resolve issues quickly and efficiently, showing hands-on ownership
- Follow health and safety guidelines and carry out risk assessments
- Read assembly drawings and checklists, demonstrating mechanical aptitude
- Use hand tools and assemble parts onto equipment
- Communicate clearly and professionally with both internal and external customers
- Operate computer systems and use basic Microsoft Office skills
- Show willingness to learn and adapt to changing role requirements
- Understand and appreciate cultural diversity
- Perform all other duties as assigned
Requirements
- Associate degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Automation or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience
- 0-3 years of direct experience in providing repairs on various types of machinery systems, including electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems
- 0-3 years of experience in equipment maintenance, modifications, and design
- Thorough theoretical and operational experience in the repair, troubleshooting, and maintenance of PLC-based machinery, highly automated, and robotic equipment and control systems
- Strong problem-solving capabilities and a process-oriented mentality
- Talent and commitment to provide unique interpretations or analyses of KNAPP systems to customers
- Excellent communication and customer service skills, both written and verbal
- Bilingual (English/Spanish or English/German) preferred but not required
- Hands-on experience and a team player committed to improving processes
- Experience in reducing costs through processes and efficiencies

- Ability to work against a timeline to complete reactive repairs
- Ability to interact with on-site management and keep them informed of repair and maintenance progress while addressing their concerns professionally
- Ability to appreciate health and safety considerations and carry out risk assessments
- Attention to detail and exceptional follow-up skills
- Computer literacy with basic Microsoft Office skills
