Primary Responsibilities
- Perform duties with a team of Construction Engineers, Caltrans / Owner Inspectors, Materials Testers, Consultants, and Office Personnel.
- Give instructions to Prime Construction Contractors and complete many items of work on the Construction project.
- Interpret and enforce complex specifications to ensure compliance with the Contract.
- Administrate the Construction Project contract and obtain approval from the Caltrans Senior Transportation Engineer when required.
- Coordinate with Caltrans Inspectors to determine appropriate priorities for testing and inspection of work quality based on contractor-proposed order of work for the shift.
Preferred Qualifications
- California Professional Engineer (Civil) License
- 10 years of relevant experience with Caltrans Highway Construction / Improvements projects
- Able to be flexible and working days, nights, and/or weekends in heavy construction requiring walking, bending, lifting and carrying inspection / surveying tools and equipment at elevated heights, confined spaces, extreme weather conditions, remote work sites, environmentally sensitive areas and over water-ways, if needed.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management or closely related field
- 10 years related experience in various aspects of construction including estimating, bidding, preparing purchase orders and subcontracts, scheduling, and field engineering
- Professional engineering license recognized by the licensing board for the location of the position offered (e.g. Professional Engineer (PE or P.Eng) license)
- Experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook); Bluebeam, estimating & scheduling software, and web-based document collaboration software
- Experience developing and managing construction engineering and inspection programs
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Pay
$63.50 - $94.75 hourly depending upon skills, experience, education and geographical location.
