About the role
H&H Construction Services is seeking Resident Engineers with a Professional Engineer License for multiple inspection projects focused on movable and fixed bridges across Northern, Central, and Southern New Jersey. Responsibilities
- Serve as the on-site representative overseeing all construction activities to ensure compliance with contract documents, plans, and NJTA standards.
- Provide leadership and direction to inspection staff, including assignment of duties, performance oversight, and quality control of field activities.
- Monitor contractor performance, schedule progress, and adherence to project milestones; identify risks and implement corrective actions as needed.
- Administer construction contracts, including review and approval of submittals, RFIs, change orders, and payment applications.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable safety regulations, traffic control requirements, and environmental standards.
- Coordinate daily with contractors, design teams, NJTA representatives, and other stakeholders to resolve field issues and maintain project continuity.
- Maintain accurate project documentation, including daily reports, quantities, field measurements, and as-built records.
- Review and verify construction quantities and support project controls, cost tracking, and forecasting activities.
- Facilitate progress meetings and prepare status reports for senior management and client stakeholders.
- Oversee inspection of materials and workmanship to ensure adherence to specifications and quality standards.
- Support dispute resolution and claims analysis, including documentation of field conditions and contractor impacts.
- Ensure successful project closeout, including punch list completion, final documentation, and turnover to the owner.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related discipline.
- Active Professional Engineer (PE) license in New Jersey preferred; NICET Level IV with equivalent highway construction experience considered.
- 12-15+ years of progressive experience in highway or heavy civil construction, including resident engineering, field inspection, and construction oversight.
- Demonstrated leadership managing contractors, inspection staff, and daily site operations on complex infrastructure projects.
- Strong working knowledge of New Jersey Turnpike Authority standards, specifications, and procedures.
- Familiarity with Critical Path Method (CPM) scheduling and its application to construction management.
- Proficiency in construction management systems, documentation, and reporting tools.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to coordinate effectively with clients, agencies, and project stakeholders.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office and strong analytical capabilities.
- Proven ability to operate independently in a field leadership role while collaborating with multidisciplinary teams.
- Valid driver's license and ability to travel to active project sites.
