Job Duties
- Provide engineering and technical direction for the administration of multiple construction contracts to assure work is performed in a manner that provides a functional, durable project that meets design intent.
- Evaluate progress of highway construction projects.
- Monitor and enforce safety processes.
- Supervise field office staff including hiring, performance appraisals, counseling, promotions and other personnel actions, including disciplinary actions.
- Schedules training, work assignments, promoting and enforcing safety, Manage field office budget, vehicle fleet, information technology equipment, other fixed assets and expendables.
- Responsible for setting all work standards within the unit assuring that maximum organizational efficiency is achieved, and accomplishing district and division objectives related to construction processes on ADOT projects.
- Assist in coordination of roadblock and other supplemental duties during winter storm events and emergencies.
- Supervise engineering services provided by consultant inspectors and engineers to administer construction contracts.
- Initiate & monitor training of subordinate personnel to assure competent, effective, motivated & fully knowledgeable workforce to provide a quality product in conformance with all prevailing laws, rules, regulations & in compliance with quality standards.
- Provide leadership, coaching & supervision of subordinate personnel to enhance the quality of the product, service to the customer & assure compliance with all plans, specifications, rules & requirements.
- Represent the best interests of the State in project and other meetings related to the ADOT state highway system, as requested.
- Initiate correspondence, memos, reports and construction documents to facilitate contract compliance, conflict resolution, contract clarification and response to public inquires.
- Cookordination construction activities with Federal, State, local and private entities to assure conflicts are minimized and the public is well served.
- Selective Preference(s):Masters Degree in Civil Engineering, Public or Business Administration or other field closely related to ADOT highway construction contract administration.
Pre-Employment Requirements
- This position requires driving or the use of a vehicle as an essential function of the job and the following requirements apply.
- Any employee operating a motor vehicle on State business must possess and retain a current, valid class-appropriate driver’s license, complete all required training, and successfully pass all necessary driver’s license record checks.
- The license must be current, unexpired, and neither revoked nor suspended.
- Employees who drive on state business are subject to driver’s license record checks, must maintain acceptable driving records, and must complete all required driver training.
- An employee who operates a personally owned vehicle on state business shall maintain the statutorily required liability insurance (see Arizona Administrative Code (A.A.C.) R2-10-207.11).
