About the role
Provides direct care to residents in a long-term care setting, focusing on personal hygiene, activities of daily living, and maintaining a safe, clean environment.
Responsibilities
- Assist residents in all areas of personal hygiene, activities of daily living, and care of their living area and personal belongings.
- Encourage the highest practicable level of independence for residents when possible.
- Assist residents at mealtime including food prep, feeding, and supervision of residents while dining.
- Ensure each resident/individual diet is followed.
- Provide supervision of residents to maintain safety of resident and peers at all times. Maintain a safe, clean environment free of hazards.
- Affirmatively report changes in resident's physical and mental condition to the community nurse for appropriate direction and intervention.
- Follow all individual service plan approaches including those developed by other disciplines including Nursing Services, Physical, Speech, or Occupational Therapy.
- Coordinate and accompany residents to worksites, appointments, and a variety of community events. Drive facility vehicles in the transportation of residents to community events, medical or dental appointments etc.
- Perform duties such as temperature, pulse, respiration, blood pressure, weights, medication administration and treatments according to residents ISP and under the general supervision of a Nurse as allowed under regulation and NP Act.
- Maintain resident rights and confidentiality of resident information.
- Immediately report all suspected cases of resident abuse or neglect to the Community Living Supervisor or Administrator.
- Performs routine services including shoveling, ower beds, keeping outside grounds neat and clean. Empties garbage regularly. Assures areas are neat and safe.
- Works with manager to implement planned recreation/social programs and to engage clients.
- Participates in and completes in a timely manner, in-service and training programs.
- Answer phones and directs calls, greets visitors and performs some clerical duties as necessary.
- Works safely, following the safety practices and standards of the organization including Blood Borne Pathogen Standards. Uses a gait belt and proper body mechanics when involved in lifting, pushing or pulling activities.
- Changes bed linens, collects laundry and assists with housekeeping duties which may include vacuuming, dusting and sweeping/mopping.
- Employee is expected to report to work when scheduled, with minimum use of sick leave, to build up sick leave balance for income protection for unexpected illness.
- Establishes and maintains a courteous, cooperative and respectful working relationship with other employees, supervisors and public officials.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED.
- For those that are a Certified Nursing Assistant, they must be on the Wisconsin Nurse Aide Registry.
- For those that are not certified, prefers previous experience performing personal care duties in a related setting.
- Prefer experience working with geriatric, mentally ill or developmentally disabled persons.
- Employees driving County vehicles must have and maintain a valid Driver's License and a good driving record.
- Must successfully pass a background check as required by the Wisconsin Caregiver Law.
- Must be 18 years of age.
