About the role

The Resident Assistant/Personal Care Aide (PCA) provides quality care and assistance with activities of daily living to residents of the community. Reports incidents involving residents to include care concerns or issues, to appropriate individuals (ex: HCD, RN/LPN, or ED).

Responsibilities

  • Maintain a working knowledge of all policies and procedures pertaining to the position
  • Affords assistance with activities of daily living
  • Performs housekeeping duties, such as making resident beds, cleaning resident apartments, common areas, dining room, etc.
  • Responds promptly to all resident calls for assistance or emergency alerts
  • Affords assistance in planning and conducting activity programs for residents
  • Follows confidentiality policies regarding release of resident information
  • Affords assistance to and from the dining room, and to and from activities
  • Checks on residents, ensures attendance at meals and activities
  • Reports status or concerns to appropriate individuals regarding residents who are ill
  • Communicates verbally and in writing to report resident status, upcoming community information, resident appointments, admissions, and transfers
  • Affords assistance with new residents' move-in transition: provides emotional support
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Has a High School Diploma or GED
  • Successfully completed approved personal care aide program per state regulations as applicable
  • Can effectively communicate verbally and in-writing
  • Is organized and able to work well with all levels of personnel
  • Is a contributing member of nursing team and follows instruction of supervisor
  • Is polite and considerate of residents, visitors, and co-workers at all times
  • Is able to walk and stand for extended periods of time
  • Is able to lift 50 lbs, and push or carry 25 lbs
  • Is able to safely lift and transfer residents while maintaining proper body mechanics
  • Wears designated uniform during working hours, to include name badge
  • Is CPR/First Aid certified, or willing to become certified within 60 days of hire
  • Represents the community in a positive and professional manner
  • Attends and completes all required in-services and staff meetings
  • Willing to work a flexible schedule that includes weekends and holidays
