GENERAL SUMMARY
Administratively responsible to the Supervisor and/or the Assistant Supervisor on duty, the Resident Assistant is responsible for carrying out the assigned programs to individuals of the Intermediate Care Facility Program (ICF/ID). A minimum of 85% of work-time is spent in direct individual contact. Assigned duties are implemented in a manner appropriate to the age-specific needs of the individuals served.
EDUCATION
A high school diploma or equivalent is preferred.
WORK EXPERIENCE
A minimum of two (2) years experience working with intellectually/developmentally disabled individuals is preferred.
SPECIAL EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS
- Cleared by PA State Police criminal history check
- Pass post-job offer pre-placement physical exam; and initial and subsequent annual TB screenings
- CPR certification must be obtained and maintained
- Adhere to established company/program policies and procedures and regulations relating to safety and infection control
- Good verbal and written communication skills and interpersonal skills required for effective communication with individuals on caseload, families, outside agency representatives and program staff
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Medium work: duties require exerting 25-50 lbs of force occasionally (approximately 10-33% of shift), and/or 10-25 lbs or force frequently (approximately 33-66% of shift)
- Position involves working in twisting, squatting, and bending positions throughout shift
- Must be able to assist with individual transfers to and from wheelchairs, beds, toilet facilities, ambulation difficulties, and seizures
- Position involves implementing IBP's and crisis intervention i.e., physical redirection, restraint, and techniques for protection of self and others
- Sight, hearing, and speech sufficient to effectively communicate with individuals is required
- Must have ability to attend to various emergency and other individual medical needs in various program locations as situations demand
- Must be able to travel to various program locations as needed
ACCIDENT OR HEALTH HAZARDS
- Position required occasional crisis intervention
- Position involves occupational exposure to blood or other potentially infectious materials
- Position involves frequent work in and around bathroom/shower areas where floors may be wet
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Works in residential settings for developmentally disabled individuals
- Position involves participation in indoor and outdoor activities during all seasons of the year
- Occasionally environment may be noisy and distracting
