About the role
The Resident Assistant/Personal Care Aide (PCA) provides quality care and assistance with activities of daily living to residents of the community. Reports incidents involving residents to include care concerns or issues, to appropriate individuals (ex: HCD, RN/LPN, or ED).
Responsibilities
- Maintains a working knowledge of all policies and procedures pertaining to the position
- Assists residents with activities of daily living
- Performs housekeeping duties, such as making resident beds, cleaning resident apartments, common areas, dining room, etc. as directed by supervisor
- Responds promptly to all resident calls for assistance or emergency alerts
- Maintains calm and competence during emergencies
- Plans and conducts activity programs for residents
- Fulfills confidentiality policies regarding release of resident information
- Aids residents to and from the dining room, and to and from activities
- Checks on residents, ensures attendance at meals and activities
- Reports resident status, upcoming community information, resident appointments, admissions, and transfers to appropriate individuals
- Assists new residents with move-in transition: provide emotional support
- Performs other duties as assigned
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED
- Successfully completed approved personal care aide program per state regulations as applicable
- Effective verbal and written communication skills
- Organized and able to work well with all levels of personnel
- Contributing member of nursing team and follows supervisor's instruction
- Polite and considerate of residents, visitors, and co-workers at all times
- Able to walk and stand for extended periods of time
- Able to lift 50 lbs, and push or carry 25 lbs
- Able to safely lift and transfer residents while maintaining proper body mechanics
- Wears designated uniform during working hours, to include name badge
- CPR/First Aid certified, or willing to become certified within 60 days of hire
- Represents the community in a positive and professional manner
- Attends and completes all required in-services and staff meetings
- Willing to work a flexible schedule that includes weekends and holidays
