About the role

Ingleside Communities is a not-for-profit facility offering senior living services ranging from nursing and rehabilitation to assisted living. They are currently seeking Resident Assistants/Caregivers for their CBRF and RCAC facilities.

Responsibilities

  • Communicate and interact with residents, families, and other health team members.
  • Perform assistive care duties under the supervision of the Manager or Shift Leader to ensure the resident’s Individual Service Plan (ISP) is followed.
  • Encourage residents to maintain their independence.
  • Assist and guide residents with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) as necessary.
  • Create a home-like environment that promotes optimal physical, emotional, psychological, social, and spiritual activity.
  • Work independently, using sound judgment in providing personal and medical care, activities, and housekeeping/laundry services as scheduled.
  • Maintain a caring attitude towards residents at all times and make good judgments in all situations.

Essential Functions

  • Assist with ADLs, provide direct care to residents, following the resident’s assessment and ISP as necessary.
  • Give or assist with personal cares such as hygiene, oral care, showers, sponge baths, tub baths, shampoos, and sets, nail and skin care.
  • Absorb toileting needs, including care of incontinent residents.
  • Demonstrate interpersonal skills to successfully interact with residents, families, visitors, co-workers, and community and government agencies.
  • Supervise or assist residents with taking medications and develop a working knowledge of medications and possible side effects.
  • Take vital signs as directed by Manager or Shift Leader.
  • Report observations to Manager or Shift Leaders and document appropriately.
  • Maintain confidentiality of resident’s records including identity, behavior, and medical conditions.
  • Maintain a clean and safe working environment, including performing house cleaning duties.
  • Wash, fold, and put away laundry, distributing to appropriate residents, ensuring residents’ names are on all clothing, towels, sets, socks, and etc. at all times.
  • Arrange and assist with leisure activities as shown on the activity board and encourage resident participation.
  • Assist with restorative activities, ambulation, range of motion as instructed by Administrators or Shift Leaders.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Compassionate, self-motivated.
  • Must have transportation to and from the facility.
  • Certification in Standard Precautions, First Aid and Choking, and Fire Safety Training.
  • Certification in Medication and Diabetic training (preferred but not required).
  • Previous experience working directly with the elderly is preferred but not required.
