About the role

The Resident Assistant position at Cedarhurst Senior Living supports residents in maintaining their dignity, independence, and overall quality of life by providing personal care assistance, companionship, and encouragement in daily activities. This role plays a vital role in promoting the physical, emotional, and social wellbeing of residents through compassionate care, effective communication, and proactive engagement in community life.

Responsibilities

  • Assist and provide direction to residents regarding their personal care needs, which include but are not limited to, grooming, hygiene, dressing, nutrition, etc.
  • Answer signal lights, bells, or intercom system to determine residents' needs using a proactive approach.
  • Take and record temperature, blood pressure, pulse and respiration rates, and food and fluid intake and output, as directed.
  • Transport residents or assists residents with walking along with turning or repositioning residents alone or with assistance.
  • Change bed linens, run errands, direct visitors, and answer telephone.
  • Aid with laundry and housekeeping duties.
  • Assist residents to and from dining room as needed and assist with meals.
  • Encourage and assist residents to participate in activities.
  • Listen to and understand the problems of residents and reports observations immediately to the care team as needed.
  • Promote the physical, personal, and emotional wellbeing of each resident and strive to maintain the ultimate goal, which is to return the resident to their maximum level of self-care and independence, when possible.
  • Understand the resident’s Advance Directives and follows their wishes.
  • Ensure effective communication is being utilized by community staff with the residents’ families concerning residents’ care, encompassing their physical, personal, and emotional wellbeing.
  • Work well with others and take direction from management, as well as taking initiative with the capability to engage in conflict intervention and resolution for residents, families, employees, and others as needed.

Qualifications

  • A High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • One year of experience as a resident assistant within a senior living community or healthcare setting is preferred.
  • CPR or BLS certification preferred.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in common digital tools and applications, including Microsoft Office programs (Outlook, Excel, Word), web-based platforms, electronic health record systems, and any HR-related systems as applicable.
