This is an additional 12-month part-time position that provides professional on-call (phone) and in-person response for the Department of Residence Life and Simpson College. The role is the first point of contact for student staff in emergencies or consultation needs.
Responsibilities
- Participate in a rotating on-call duty schedule throughout the year with other professional staff in Residence Life. While on-call, respond to any needs that arise in the residential facilities through consultation or in-person response. (65%)
- Participate in training, team meetings, opening and closing tasks with Residence Life staff. (20%)
- Maintain accurate documentation and file incident reports as necessary. (10%)
- Maintain communication with physical plant/custodial staff and EMS staff. (5%)
Requirements
- Interpersonal skills requiring above ordinary courtesy and tact to communicate effectively with diverse individuals in routine, high-stress, and emergency situations, and to help defuse emotionally charged situations.
- Communication skills: ability to read, write, type, and use computer software (Office suite/Teams) to prepare reports and communicate (verbally and in writing) with students and staff.
- Ability to reason, think clearly, and use problem-solving skills to respond to widely varied situations.
- Ability to take charge of a situation/scene when needed and delegate tasks to others.
- Knowledge of first aid and CPR (training can be provided by Simpson College).
- Mobility to walk in order to respond to situations on campus.
- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
Physical Requirements
- Non-strenuous daily work; extended work at a desk and viewing of computer screens.
- Normal office environment with little exposure to excessive noise, dust, temperature, and the like.
- Frequent sitting, talking, and hearing in meetings, classrooms, and office environments.
- Occasional walking, standing, bending, reaching, or lifting and carrying materials up to 25 pounds (such as files, books, and presentation equipment).
- Manual dexterity sufficient to operate a computer, telephone, and other standard office or instructional equipment.
- Visual acuity sufficient to read printed materials, digital screens, and documents.
- May involve extended periods of time at a computer workstation and participation in meetings conducted virtually or in person.
- May occasionally require attendance at evening or weekend events, such as student activities, faculty meetings, or institutional programs.
