Research Treatment Nurse - Oncology

About the role

As the Research Treatment Nurse for the Drug Development Unit, your primary responsibility is to treat and manage patients enrolled on clinical trials. You will closely follow study patients throughout the treatment course, ensuring protocol compliance. You will administer chemotherapy as ordered by physicians, read and interpret EKGs, communicate all protocol-related issues/problems to the investigator, assess patients for side effects of treatment and symptoms related to disease or disease progression, assess lab data and communicate abnormal findings to the investigator and oncologist, assess and document patient compliance with medications and return visits, communicate with the pharmacy staff to provide timely and accurate study drug distribution, maintain a current medication list and records in protocol-specific requirements, document and report adverse events, perform telephone triage, assess the patients EMR to ensure all required data has been entered prior to their scheduled appointment, provide patient counseling and referral to appropriate support services, monitor schedules daily for appropriate treatment distribution and additional patient visits.

• Absess lab data and communicate abnormal findings to the investigator and oncologist
• Absess and document patient compliance with medications and return visits
• Communicate with the pharmacy staff to provide timely and accurate study drug distribution
• Maintain a current medication list and records in protocol-specific requirements
• Document and report adverse events
• Perform telephone triage
• Assess the patients EMR to ensure all required data has been entered prior to their scheduled appointment
• Provide patient counseling and referral to appropriate support services
• Monitor schedules daily for appropriate treatment distribution and additional patient visits

Requirements

• An Associate Degree; preferably a Bachelor’s Degree
• Current licensure in the state of Colorado as a Registered Nurse
• Knowledge of medical and research terminology
• Knowledge of FDA Code of Federal Regulations and GCP
• Knowledge of the clinical research processes
• Knowledge of Phase I protocol
• One year of acute care nursing experience required
• At least one year of oncology experience preferred
• At least one year of experience in a research setting preferred

Skills

• BLS certification
• ACLS certification (can complete within nine months of start date)
• ONS Chemotherapy Provider card (can complete within nine months of start date)
• Research Certification (ACRP or CCRP)

Pay

The salary range for this position is: $83,000 - $100,000 annually
