About the role

The University of South Alabama’s Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology is seeking a Research Technologist I to study complexes involved in the repair of mitochondrial DNA via the base excision repair pathway.

Responsibilities

  • Utilize biochemical and biophysical approaches to study complexes formed during the base excision pathway in mitochondria.
  • Perform techniques including in vitro protein purification, binding activity assays, repair assays, multi-angle light scattering, X-ray crystallography, and SAXS.
  • Assist new post-doctoral research fellows and graduate assistant students with their projects as needed.
  • Collect data and prepare reports of findings.
  • Follow appropriate safety procedures for handling biohazardous and highly toxic substances.
  • Maintain laboratory inventory, order supplies, and keep the lab orderly.
  • Regular and prompt attendance; ability to work schedule as defined and overtime as required.
  • Perform related duties as required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a physical or natural science from an accredited institution (or equivalent combination of education and experience).

Schedule

  • Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
  • Full-time, regular position.
