Research Technician - Washington Area

Summary

The position involves assisting scientists and technicians in performing laboratory research and procedures, collecting, recording, organizing, and verifying data, and maintaining laboratory records. Essential duties include operating laboratory instruments, participating in meetings, and maintaining biological specimens.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

• Aid in the performance of laboratory research and procedures by performing various experimental techniques and operating scientific equipment.
• Collect, record, organize, and verify data; perform calculations and prepare charts, graphs, and reports.
• Order chemicals, reagents, and other laboratory supplies as needed.
• Participate in laboratory meetings and planning sessions.
• May maintain insects, plants, animals, and/or bacterial and tissue cultures for experimental purposes.
• Stay current in research area through applicable literature.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science degree in an appropriate field or equivalent combination of education and related work experience.
• Some related laboratory experience preferred.

• Ability to draft routine reports and keep accurate records of work performed.

• Ability to move about workspace.
• Mobility required to move materials weighing up to several pounds.
• Exposure to malodorous vapors, low dose radiation, contamination by toxic chemicals and acids, and presence of carcinogenic substances.

• Salary range: Research Technician I – $17.86 (minimum) - $22.31 (midpoint) - $29.03 (maximum).
