About the role

Works under minimal supervision to provide responsible technical assistance in performance of assignments requiring basic knowledge of techniques and practices related to a particular field of science. Ideal candidates should have a degree in Biochemistry or Biology. The candidate will work with a team of researchers to study pancreatic islet beta cells and/or develop targeted drug delivery to islet beta cells for preventing and treating diabetes (both Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes).

Responsibilities

  • Design and perform experiments
  • Maintain detailed laboratory records
  • Analyze and interpret data
  • Contribute to research presentations and publications
  • Perform mammalian cell culture
  • Conduct biochemical assays (Western Blot, ELISA, qPCR)
  • Perform immunofluorescence and fluorescence imaging
  • Assemble and/or operate various laboratory equipment and apparatus
  • Record research data in accordance with prescribed procedures, discussing results with supervisor
  • Assist in collection of data for project reports
  • Read literature and confer with supervisor concerning implementation of new procedures
  • May plan for, and provide working supervision to, work of laboratory personnel of lower grade engaged in a limited phase of a research project
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Experience with animal research such as mouse handling and breeding is a plus but not required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree with major coursework in field of assignment and no experience, or
  • Two (2) years of college with emphasis in coursework in field of assignment, or
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent

Experience

  • No experience required with Bachelor's Degree, or
  • 2 years of laboratory experience at the level of Laboratory Technical Assistant or equivalent with two (2) years of college, or
  • 4 years of laboratory experience including two years at the level of Laboratory Technical Assistant or equivalent with High School Graduation or GED equivalent
