Research Technician I, Support Team

TITLE AND CLASSIFICATION: Research Support Technician I, Support Team / Non-exempt Position REPORTING LOCATION: Rockville, MD REPORTS TO: Manager, Research Support Team PRIMARY OBJECTIVES: Provide general technical support for in vivo oncology studies in mice. VARIOUS SCHEDULE OPTIONS: Mon-Fri 7-3:30 OR 9-5:30; Mon-Thurs 7-5:30; Tues-Fri 7-5:30 Duties And Responsibilities Provide in vivo technical support for oncology studies with miceTumor volume measurements with calipers for stock miceRandomization of animals onto studyBody weight measurements in LIMS Removal of Surgical Staples Euthanasia of animalsPerform general study preparation and laboratory organizationMovement of Animals to Other team locationsPreserve room organizationAssist with Pre-Op care, including but not limited to shaving Additional responsibilities as deemed necessary Qualifications KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES Strong mouse technical in vivo skills Ability to work effectively and productively in a team-oriented environment while maintaining a strong sense of accountability, integrity and confidentiality.Strong written and verbal communication skillsStrong general computer usage skills (email, spreadsheets, databases)Willingness to assist with other duties in a dynamic environmentEagerness to learn and master new skillsStrong focus on animal welfareAbility to observe safety and security procedures Education And Experience Preferred: BS degree in animal science, biology, or related field.Preferred: AALAS ALAT certification PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT Must be able to sit and use hands to finger, handle and feelMust be able to lift and move packages weighing up to 50 poundsMust be able to sit or stand for long periods of time in a typical laboratory environment Some activities require repetitive motion and reaching, pulling or pushingIn carrying out the duties of the job there will be frequent exposure to fumes/chemical hazardsDuties performed routinely require exposure to blood, body fluid and tissue This description reflects management’s assignment of essential functions, it does not proscribe or restrict the tasks that may be assigned.
