Research Technician I - Cardiology

Location: St. Louis, MO 63110 | Scheduled Hours: 40

About the role

This position will support ongoing research in the lab through a combination of cell culture, molecular biology, and animal work.

Responsibilities

• Maintains primary and immortalized cell lines.
• Isolates RNA and protein from cells and tissues.
• Performs routine molecular biology techniques such as gel electrophoresis, PCR, and Western blotting.
• Assists with mouse colony maintenance and basic animal handling procedures in support of in vivo experiments.
• Assists the investigator or higher-level technician with research studies, experiments, and assays, including collection of data, preparation of solutions, and setup and maintenance of equipment.
• Maintains files on research and assists with data entry.
• Assists with general lab maintenance and cleaning.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Working Conditions

Works in a laboratory environment with potential exposure to biological and chemical hazards. Must be physically able to wear protective equipment and to provide standard care to research animals.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent high school certification or combination of education and/or experience.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with mammalian cell culture technique.
• Familiarity with basic molecular biology methods (e.g., RNA and protein extraction, gel electrophoresis, PCR, Western blotting).
• Experience handling laboratory mice, including basic husbandry or procedures.
• Strong attention to detail, ability to work independently, and willingness to learn new techniques.

Pay

Salary Range: $16.54 - $22.35 / Hourly

The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade, and department budget.
