About the role

The Sharpe Lab and the Preclinical Behavior and Surgery Suite at OMRF are seeking a full-time Research Technician to conduct basic research in mice related to aging, neurodegenerative diseases like Alzheimer's and Parkinson's, obesity, and neurological disorders.

Responsibilities

  • Organize and maintain the Preclinical Behavior and Surgery Suite: coordinate equipment schedules, train new users, manage computers and supplies, ensure compliance with safety and animal use oversight, and act as a liaison with animal care personnel.
  • Perform mouse behavioral assays, maintain a mouse colony, and assist with mouse surgeries.
  • Keep the lab operational by ordering supplies and reagents, and perform general duties to support ongoing research.
  • Opportunities for growth include involvement in immunohistochemistry and survival surgeries on rodents (such as jugular catheter implantation and stereotaxic surgery).

Requirements

  • BS/BA degree in biological sciences, neuroscience, or psychology, or equivalent years of relevant lab experience.
  • Experience with rodents, knowledge of mouse handling, statistical procedures, and neuroscience methods.
  • Advanced computer skills including data acquisition, Microsoft Office software, order processing, and data backup methods.
  • Reliable, organized, and detail-oriented with strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Strong scientific rigor, critical thinking, and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and collaborate effectively within a team.
  • High ethical standards and professional demeanor.

Qualifications

  • 2 years of relevant lab experience preferred.
  • Background in experimental psychology preferred.
  • Experience with animal behavioral training preferred.
  • Working knowledge of Arduino hardware and programming preferred.
