About the Role

The Research Technician will assist scientists in performing scientific research, development, and clinical tasks of varying complexity at the Center for Functional Cancer Epigenetics (CFCE) within Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. The CFCE is dedicated to exploring the role of epigenetic alterations and abnormal transcriptional regulation in cancer development and progression. The role involves a tight coupling between wet-lab and informatics efforts to advance the field.

The technician will perform experiments focused on elucidating epigenetic and transcriptional regulation in a variety of cancer models using genomic techniques such as RNA and DNA extraction, nuclei isolation, single-cell technology, spatial transcriptomics, ATAC-seq, and ChIP-seq. Additionally, the candidate will handle lab managerial tasks, including reagent ordering and paperwork.

Responsibilities

  • Set up, adjust, calibrate, clean, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory equipment.
  • Clean, maintain, and prepare supplies and work areas; may be responsible for ordering supplies and negotiating with vendors.
  • Conduct standardized biological, microbiological, or biochemical tests and laboratory analyses, including collecting information and samples from organic substances (e.g., blood, drugs, animals).
  • Isolate, identify, and prepare specimens for examination.
  • Analyze experimental data, interpret results, and write reports and summaries of findings, including grant preparation, presentations, and co-authoring publications.
  • Participate in the grant application process and manuscript preparation as required.
  • Maintain a detailed notebook of all work-related activities.
  • Monitor laboratory work to ensure compliance with Environmental Health and Safety guidelines and standard operating procedures.
  • Provide intellectual and interactive commitment by staying updated with relevant literature and research publications.
  • May develop, modify, and improve standard operating procedures.
  • Use computers, computer-interfaced equipment, robotics, or high-technology applications to perform work duties.
  • May design and execute advanced experiments and set strategy.
  • May examine animals and specimens to detect disease or other problems.
  • May monitor laboratory budgets.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in biology or chemistry; no prior professional experience necessary.
  • Knowledge of information and techniques related to biology, chemistry, or medicine is preferred.
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal) and ability to work with a diverse team of faculty and staff.
  • Strong analytical skills and logical approach to addressing work-related issues.
  • Attention to detail and thoroughness in completing tasks.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.

Pay

The hiring range for this position is $47,500.00 - $51,300.00, with individual salaries determined by factors such as relevant experience, skills, and qualifications.
